Sherriff
The first day I worked at the waste dump, I met Sherriff. I recognized him as the guy who connected all the dots. He was seen as 'the boss'. He picked up the full bags of valuable waste at the dumping sites. He then brought it to several working places where people ordered, cut, shredded, washed and dried the waste.
When talking about all the waste pickers, including Baba, it was as if they were his sons. Whenever something bad happened, he was there. Whenever they needed financial help, he was there. Some of the waste pickers even called him 'father'. Accordingly, they did not act as separate individuals, they acted as an interconnected 'whole' that took care of each other.
